Shipping Container

Next, we decided to buy a used (“new to us” ) 20′ shipping container to use as a temporary cabin. We already knew someday we would have a Tiny House and needed time to scope out the lay of the land for the house site and to decide what type and size house we wanted.

The property was an hour drive one way, so staying there overnight would save time and maximize our efforts.

There was already a drilled water well on the property, so we chose to locate the shipping container nearby on an area relatively free of tall brush that we cleared by hand. We had a local gravel company spread 24 tons of 1-1/2″ limestone on our roadway and 1.5 tons of crusher run gravel spread on the future shipping container area. We laid fifteen 5″x8′ treated pine round poles on the ground with clear plastic under them to keep weeds down. The poles would keep the container off the ground and enable us to maneuver the container around a bit.
