Murphy Bed, Heater, Lights, TV, DVR

Above is the Murphy Bed kit contents. You’ll need to buy some various types of wood, screws, and finishing products, all available at your local big box hardware store. The kit is very well put together, and the instructions are quite simple to follow. You’ll need help as the bed gets heavy while building, but we’ve built two of these to date, and they are well crafted.

Choosing to use a Murphy bed to save space, we built one using a purchased full sized bed frame kit and added small wooden shelves floor to ceiling on each side. A long wood shelf was built and attached to the bed bottom that could hold pillows when the bed was up and used as legs when it was down. Clothes hooks were also placed on the bed bottom wood for clothes or totes when the bed is up. Reading lamps were attached to both side shelves of the bed.

A propane heater was installed on the wall and 12volt lights were hung the length of the ceiling which really lit the place up a lot. A TV and DVR power box were also hooked up.

Then we thought we would try out the Murphy bed that night. It was cold and we couldn’t hook up the propane heater due to an incorrect regulator. We used a propane fueled Mr. Heater which caused moisture in the air that froze overnight in the 26 degree temperature. We could see our breath inside and “everything” got wet with propane caused moisture. Ah… sweet country living.
