Wood Stove

Shortly after the indoor raining fiasco, we researched wood stoves and decided on a Vogelzang Rancher heat/cook wood/coal stove. Since we have readily accessible wood from our trees and wood burns as a dry heat, the moisture problem should abate.

We ordered the stove.

The stove install required triple wall stove pipes fittings, and accessories were obtained locally, so we were ready to go.

Next, a decision was made to a cut hole in the wall of the shipping container for stove pipe and measurements were taken for triple wall pipe and floor stove board. Wall protection metal and a stove board on the floor under the Rancher wood stove was added for extra fire protection. We proceeded to put up the triple wall stove pipe (three 36″ sections) with guy wire. Then hooks were attached on the side walls outside the shipping container metal doors to prevent them from swinging closed, knocking against the stove pipe. Cement board skirting around shipping container base proved to help with cold floors.

The rancher stove keeps the shipping container house toasty warm!
