IBC Water Tanks

IBC are the square white plastic tanks in metal cages; they hold between 250 to 300 gallons.

We moved three 300 gallon IBC water tanks to the property with the plan to use them under the Tiny House gutters to collect rain water for outdoor use. Outdoor showers, watering plants, washing vehicles, mixing cement, and who knows what else they end up being used for.

You can buy these tanks used, but beware the lineage! We found our tanks contained a food grade binding agent, so they would be safe to use for drinking water if we chose this route. Instead, we’ll use the tanks to collect rainwater for gardens and watering plants.

You can also find used blue 55 gallon drums, like in the picture for about $20 each. We have several that were used to transport tomato paste from a farm to a food company. Easy to clean, and multipurpose.
